\u201cSo, wait, what is this \u2018Arab Levant\u2019, or whatever, you just mentioned?\u201d you may be asking.<\/p>\n

Okay, so the word \u201cLevant\u201d refers to a large part of the\u00a0historical region of the Eastern Mediterranean.\u00a0Historically, it used to be Syria, but now includes other countries such\u00a0as Lebanon,\u00a0Jordan,\u00a0and Palestine. Most of the Levantine people here speak one of the Arabic dialects<\/a> known as\u00a0Levantine Arabic. Although there are some who speak a different variety of\u00a0Arabic. It\u2019s Easier to Pronounce<\/h2>\n

When it comes to Arabic pronunciation, letters in Arabic can sometimes get tricky. This is especially for Westerners who often find some of the strange new sounds a struggle. The good news is that Levantine Arabic is one of the easiest Arabic dialects to pronounce. This is because in some cases, Levantine Arabic speakers omit some of the harsher sounding letters in their everyday language. A few examples would be the uvular q<\/em> sound. This means instead of qalbi<\/em> (my heart), which to a Westerner, may sound the same as kalbi<\/em> (my dog), they simply drop the q<\/em> sound for the softer sounding albi<\/em>. This not only makes Levantine Arabic easier to pronounce, but also avoids a lot of embarrassment in some cases.<\/p>\n

Many people find that Levantine Arabic is the Goldilocks of the Arabic dialects. Some may find the Mesopotamian (or Iraqi) dialect a bit too heavy in pronunciation and the Egyptian dialect pronunciation a bit too light.
