If you have had any of these Arabic speaking countries or cities on your personal list (i.e., your \u201cbucket list\u201d) of places you\u2019ve always wanted to go, knowing a few Arabic words and phrases can really be helpful in your travels.\u00a0Here are some of them: <\/p>\n

ahlan – \u0623\u0647\u0644\u0627\u064b<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A general greeting meaning \u201cHello\u201d and used by people from all over the Middle East and North Africa region. <\/p>\n

as salaamu alaykum – \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0644\u0627\u0645 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0643\u0645 <\/strong><\/h4>\n

This a greeting meaning \u201cPeace be upon you\u201d and is generally exchanged by Muslims all over the world (which means that when you learn Arabic language vocabulary, an extra-added benefit is that you can use some of it in other Islamic countries like Singapore and Malaysia if they happen to be on your bucket list, as well).<\/p>\n

shukraan<\/strong> <\/a>– \u0634\u0643\u0631\u0627\u064b<\/strong><\/h4>\n

As in other languages, \u201cThank you\u201d is an important phrase to be used generously.<\/p>\n

min fadhlik – \u0645\u0646 \u0641\u0636\u0644\u0643<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Won\u2019t your parents be proud that you use \u201cplease\u201d when making requests in another language? <\/p>\n

This phrase meaning \u201cHow much?\u201d is important for everything in your daily travels from eating to public transportation. <\/p>\n

na\u2019am\/laa – \u0646\u0639\u0645\/ \u0644\u0627 <\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cYes\u201d and \u201cNo\u201d (respectively) are the simplest, yet possibly the most important words you can learn in Arabic. <\/p>\n

shurta<\/strong> – \u0634\u0631\u0637\u0629<\/strong><\/h4>\n

We hope you never have to use this Arabic word meaning \u201cpolice\u201d, but if you do run into trouble, at least you know who to call to help. <\/p>\n

mustashfa<\/strong> – \u0645\u0633\u062a\u0634\u0641\u0649<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Another word you should learn, but we hope you never have to use is this word meaning \u201chospital\u201d.<\/p>\n

mataar<\/strong> – \u0645\u0637\u0627\u0631<\/strong><\/h4>\n

You\u2019re probably going to have to know this to get either in or out of the country your visiting, so knowing \u201cairport\u201d in Arabic will let the taxi driver know exactly where you want to go.<\/p>\n

safaara<\/strong> – \u0633\u0641\u0627\u0631\u0629<\/strong><\/h4>\n

If you have a non-medical or non-life threatening emergency, the \u201cembassy\u201d is a little swath of your own country you can turn to for protection. <\/p>\n
