Sometimes in Arabic you\u2019ll want to talk about something specific that is near or far from you. In English, we use the words \u201cthis\u201d, \u201cthat\u201d, \u201cthese\u201d and \u201cthose\u201d \u2013 also known as demonstrative pronouns \u2013 to do that. For example, we might say, \u201cThis is my sister.\u201d or \u201cThat is my house\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Well, the good news is that Arabic also uses demonstrative pronouns to replace the noun and point out something that is near or far. The difference is, however, that Arabic uses different demonstrative pronouns not only based on the number (singular, dual, or plural) but also the gender (masculine, feminine) of the noun.<\/span><\/p>\n
