In Arabic, case endings are short vowel marks (or \u0627\u0644\u062d\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0643\u0627\u062a \/alHarakaat\/<\/span> <\/span>in Arabic) that are placed above and below the last letter of a word. These let the reader know what the grammatical function of the word is. In other words, they help the reader determine if the word is a subject, object, or verb of a sentence.<\/span><\/h1>\n

Each case marker corresponds to one of the different grammatical cases. These cases are:<\/span><\/h1>\n

The Genitive Case<\/span><\/h1>\n


<\/b><\/p>\n

The genitive case in Arabic is marked by a \u0643\u064e\u0633\u0631\u064e\u0629\/<\/span>kasrah\/<\/span> ( \u0650 ) which is placed below the word. Furthermore, this case is used to indicate words that come after a preposition, an adverb, and the second word in an \/\u02bcidhaafah\/ (\u0625\u0650\u0636\u0627\u0641\u064e\u0629).<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/b><\/p>\n

Unlike the nominative and accusative, however, there are three cases in which the genitive is used:<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/b><\/p>\n

Case 1<\/span>:<\/span> The noun that precedes the preposition takes the genitive, as in:<\/span><\/p>\n

Here you will note that the word Arabic \u0627\u0644\u0645\u064e\u062f\u0652\u0631\u064e\u0633\u064e\u0629\u0650\/<\/span>ilmadrasati<\/span> \/ is always marked by a \/<\/span>kasrah\/<\/span> at the end and it precedes the preposition.<\/span><\/p>\n
