Hello and welcome to the Kaleela blog where we\u2019ve once again been focusing on the Arabic alphabet. We\u2019ll continue our journey today as we look at the letter <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/ <\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/.<\/span><\/p>\n

The consonant letter <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/ <\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ is equivalent to the letter \u201ch\u201d in English and pronounced the same as in house, hint or hat but not as in hour (where the \u201ch\u201d is silent).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One thing to note is that, for clarity\u2019s sake, we always transliterate the letter <\/span>\u0647<\/span> as a small letter \/h\/ so you can distinguish <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ as in <\/span>\u0647\u064f\u0640\u0640\u062f\u0647\u064f\u0640\u0640\u062f<\/span> \/<\/span>hudhud<\/span>\/ or \u201choopoe\u201d from the letter <\/span>\u062d\u0627\u0621<\/span> \/<\/span>Haa\u2019<\/span>\/ as found in <\/span>\u062d\u0650\u0640\u0631\u0628\u0627\u0621<\/span> \/<\/span>Hirbaa\u2019<\/span>\/ or \u201cchameleon\u201d. The Shapes of <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/<\/span><\/h1>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The letter <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/, like many other letters of the Arabic alphabet, takes on several different shapes depending on whether it comes at the beginning of the word (initial), middle of the word (medial), or ending of the word (final).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u2019ll start with the basic shape of <\/span>\u0647 <\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ which as you can see, looks like a small circle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Initial Position<\/span><\/h3>\n

When <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ comes at the beginning of the word, as it does in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u0647<\/span>\u0627\u062a\u0650\u0641<\/span> \/<\/span>haatif<\/span>\/ or \u201ctelephone\u201d<\/p>\n

\nIn the Medial Position<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

When <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ comes in the middle of a word (or anywhere except the first or last letters), two things can happen:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    First, <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ is connected on both sides as in\u00a0 \u0645\u064f<\/span>\u0647\u064e<\/span>\u0646\u062f\u0650\u0633 \/<\/span>muhandis<\/span>\/ \u201cengineer\u201d<\/p>\n

    \"\"<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

    and takes on the shape of the English number \u201c8\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

      The other thing that can happen when <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/haa\u2019\/ is in the medial position is that it can be disconnected from the right side as in <\/span>\u0632\u064e<\/span>\u0647<\/span>\u0640\u0640\u0631<\/span> \/<\/span>zahr<\/span>\/ \u201cblossom\u201d<\/p>\n

      \"\"<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      <\/p>\n

      and it once again takes on the \u201ctwo triangles\u201d shape mentioned above.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

      In the End Position<\/span><\/h3>\n

      When <\/span>\u0647\/<\/span>haa<\/span>\u2019\/ <\/span>comes at the end of a word, once again, two things can happen:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

        \n
      1. \n

        First, it can fall at the end while being connected to the previous letters as in <\/span>\u0648\u064e\u062c\u0640\u0640<\/span>\u0647<\/span> \/<\/span>wajh<\/span>\/ or \u201cface\u201d
        \n\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n


        \nwhere it takes on the shape of the number 9 in English preceded by a straight line.<\/span><\/p>\n

        \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

          If it falls at the end and is disconnected from the previous letters in the word as in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u0645\u064f\u0646\u062a\u064e\u0632\u064e<\/span>\u0647<\/span>\u00a0\/<\/span>muntazah<\/span>\/ or \u201cpark\u201d<\/p>\n

          <\/p>\n

          It becomes disconnected and looks like a small circle once again.<\/span><\/p>\n

          \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

          \u00a0<\/span>Connecting\u00a0 <\/span>\u0647 \/<\/span>haa<\/span>\u2019\/\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

          Speaking of all of these connections, it\u2019s important to know that some Arabic letters can only be connected from the right side. These letters are:<\/span><\/p>\n

          \u0623\\\u0648\\\u062f\\\u0630\\\u0631\\\u0632<\/span><\/p>\n

          Likewise, there are some Arabic letters that can be connected from both sides. They are:<\/span><\/p>\n

          \u0628\\\u062a\\\u062b\\\u062c\\\u062d\\\u062e\\\u0633\\\u0634\\\u0635\\\u0636\\\u0637\\\u0638\\\u0639\\\u063a\\\u0641\\\u0642\\\u0643\\\u0644\\\u0645\\\u0646\\<\/span>\u0647<\/span>\\\u064a<\/span><\/p>\n

          \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

          \u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ is disconnected from the right when it is preceded by letters from the first group as in <\/span>\u0632\u064e<\/span>\u0647<\/span>\u0640\u0640\u0631<\/span> \/<\/span>zahr<\/span>\/ \u201cblossom\u201d where <\/span>zayn<\/span> (<\/span>\u0632<\/span>) falls in the first group.<\/span><\/p>\n

          As seen above <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa<\/span>\u2019\/ falls into the group that can be connected from both sides. As a result, we can also conclude that <\/span>\u0647<\/span>\/<\/span>haa\u2019<\/span>\/ can be connected from the right when it is preceded by letters from the second group as in <\/span>\u0645\u064f<\/span>\u0647\u064e<\/span>\u0646\u062f\u0650\u0633<\/span>\/<\/span>muhandis<\/span>\/\u201dengineer where <\/span>meem <\/span>(<\/span>\u0645)<\/span> falls in the second group.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
